Not everyone who accesses a web site intends to purchase items, although a proportion will access the ECommerce software either accidentally or while idly surfing. For our purposes, such accesses create load on the system, regardless. The frequency of product web pages accessed should be greater than the frequency of shopping basket accesses because people do not always select products viewed. The number of shopping basket accesses will be greater than the number of payment web pages accessed, simply because not everyone finishes the transaction via the InterNet, if at all.
The ratios will vary depending on the nature of the web site, although the number of products and the price are a major consideration. For example, a large web site requires the user to navigate more web pages between purchases. This in itself discourages sales because the increased number of web pages take longer to access. High prices, either relatively or not, will discourage access, obviously. Less obviously, such perceived pricing will encourage idle accessing, so system load may increase with price.
